Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a widely sought-after cosmetic dentistry procedure. It aims at improving the appearance of teeth by restoring the enamel to its usual white color. Whiter teeth signify beauty, success, or even good health. At Zenith Smiles we offer professional teeth whitening as a cost-effective way to have the beautiful smile that you have always dreamed of. If you want a brighter smile, our team can perform a whitening procedure to reduce discoloration and staining.

TYPES OF WHITENING WE OFFER

We provide in-office whitening that usually takes a single visit. We also provide take-home whitening trays to whiten your teeth by yourself. You will choose what technique to use to whiten the teeth but our dental team will assist you in making the decision.

IN-OFFICE WHITENING

When you come in for in-office whitening, our dentist applies a whitening solution containing hydrogen peroxide. The active ingredient or hydrogen peroxide penetrates through the tooth enamel where it triggers an oxidation process. In this process, the molecules are changed to reflect little or no light. As such, it makes the molecules look colorless, thus making the teeth appear whiter. The process is effective at eliminating stains.

Sometimes, the stains may be too stubborn for the professional teeth bleaching procedure to yield results. If this is the case, we can offer another option. If, for instance, you have developmental stains that a bleaching procedure cannot resolve, we may suggest dental veneer placement to cover those dark stains. Patients who smoke are a candidate for veneers because these restorations tend to resist staining and they do not yellow as fast as natural teeth do.

TAKE-HOME WHITENING TRAYS

If you choose to whiten your teeth at home, we begin by obtaining an impression or model of your mouth and teeth. The model helps create custom-fit whitening trays in a laboratory. The trays are able to securely fit around the teeth, meaning that they do not present the dangers of leaking solution or bleaching agent into the mouth. You use the trays at home and have to wear them a few hours daily, particularly at night. You wear the whitening trays for a week or as you deem appropriate. Once you get the perfect shade you need for your teeth, you can stop wearing your trays.

AFTERCARE TIPS FOR TEETH WHITENING

After you have received a teeth whitening procedure, you want to avoid consuming heavily dyed beverages since they can lead to severe staining. Although your teeth are strong, the enamel may be prone to staining soon after the whitening procedure. Since you will feel some form of sensitivity to hot and cold once a whitening treatment is completed, you can use toothpaste that works to reduce sensitivity. Additionally, you should avoid chewy foods since they may damage the freshly whitened teeth. When brushing, try to do it gently so that you do not worsen the sensitivity. Follow up with our dental specialists so that we can examine the teeth and ensure there was not any harm that could have occurred during the whitening procedure.
