Dental Bonding

Dental bonding involves the application of a natural-looking resin onto a damaged tooth surface. It works to restore a stained, cracked, chipped, or mildly misaligned tooth. Bonding can quickly restore an attractive smile. Since the bonding material is strong and serves as a replacement for lost enamel and dentin, it provides durable protection while also enhancing the strength of the teeth. Our dental specialists at Zenith Smiles will match the composite resin bonding material to the rest of the teeth in order to seamlessly blend in as well as cover imperfections.

WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?

Whether you are being bothered by minor cosmetic dental issues like an oddly shaped tooth, a gap between teeth, or discoloration, dental bonding provides a cost-effective solution. It is both a restorative as well as a cosmetic procedure that resolves minor chips, cavities, discoloration, and many others.

Dental bonding involves the use of a tooth-colored composite material that is carefully applied to a tooth before our dentist sculpts, hardens, and polishes it to look like the real tooth. It is ideal for correcting broken or chipped teeth, filling gaps between teeth, protecting exposed roots, as an alternative to regular amalgam fillings, and addressing discoloration.

THE BONDING PROCEDURE

A tooth bonding procedure starts with the preparation of the tooth. Our dentist roughens or etches the tooth surface using a gentle phosphoric acid conditioner in order to allow the resin to bond with the tooth. It is a completely painless procedure. Thereafter, the dentist places a putty-like composite material of the right shade to the color of the tooth and carefully sculpts and reshapes it to restore and enhance the shape and size of the tooth being restored.

Once the dentist molds the material, it is then cured and hardened using a UV light. The dentist can also shape and trim further the bonded composite material as may be required before performing the last step that involves polishing and buffing. When polished and buffed, the dental bonding composite material attains a smooth finish just like that of your surrounding teeth. The procedure takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes for a single tooth and can be done in a single office visit.

THE BENEFITS OF TOOTH BONDING

Compared to traditional amalgam fillings and veneers, dental bonding offers many benefits. It is affordable because it can cost a fraction of the money you would pay for veneers or crowns. It also requires a short office visit and takes little time to complete. Bonding is painless, so you should not be troubled about discomfort or pain during the procedure. Additionally, bonding does not take a lot of enamel, instead, only a small amount of enamel is removed. The thin layer of enamel that is removed by etching the surface ensures that not much of the enamel surface is exposed to damage. Veneers and crowns tend to remove more enamel surfaces.

If you are seeking a tooth cosmetic or restorative procedure that provides an alternative to veneers and crowns, you can consider dental bonding.
